When I do get interviewed I get the job and keep it for a long time because of my work ethics.
I will get the job done and I will get along with everyone else as a team.
But let's set that aside for a moment and focus on why I hardly ever get interviewed.
You'll notice that most employers in northwest Arkansas claim to be religiously-oriented.
In my opinion they do this just to make themselves appear to be friendly because when it comes to religious convictions, they do not practice any. Do they want their god to forgive them no matter what they do? If so, they need to start forgiving others and learn to look past others mistakes. If they were truly religiously-oriented, they wouldn't even run a background check. Yes, there are certain jobs that are important for background checks. But there are so many others that are not. And when they are run for specific jobs, there are only certain backgrounds that should be ruled out for specific jobs.
Sure, if a person was convicted for holding up a liquor store, you don't hire that person at a liquor store. But, he might do perfect cleaning cars for a car rental agency.
If a person got money illegally from a bank, that person might not be hireable at a bank, but could be perfect at the liquor store.
Plus, the time element. If a person was convicted of something over 20 years ago and his record has been spotless ever since, what is your problem? Employers who do not hire because of criminal backgrounds but yet claim any sort of religious affiliation should be placed on a list for everyone to judge. Those companies are judging others so they should be judged by others. Let everyone know their hypocrisy and we can all choose whether or not we want their services or products.
On the other hand, if there is a decent employer who actually practices what he preaches or claims to believe, I am interested in working for you. Believe it or not, I am not an extremely religious person. I am just a guy trying to get a job. But, I am running into employers claiming they won't hire me because their religious views conflict with hiring someone with my criminal background. Aren't they telling me straight-up that they are a hypocrite and that I really don't need to be working for them anyway? I mean, what other rules do they bend to make themselves feel better about themselves?
Due to my criminal background from something that occured over 35 years ago, that really didn't even involve me, not only do I have difficulty getting hired, but when I do get hired, I have it in my head to outwork everyone else in order to keep that job. I just recently lost my job after 3 years of employment only because someone decided to make my criminal background a "thing." Yes, it's legal to do that. And for those of you people who think you know something about the law, don't you think I've already looked into getting that expunged? There are some things that just cannot be done. Accept it. Like me finding a decent job at my age. Probably not gonna happen unless I find an employer who thinks straight. Good luck, right?
